The 36-semester hour graduate program in Information Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM) is designed to educate the leaders who can plan, architect, integrate, and manage the systems needed to support modern digital enterprises. Graduate studies in ISEM cut across the following three active areas of work:
- Information Systems - the latest technologies and approaches (e.g. web-based components, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Big Data, cloud and on-premise computing, Internet of Things, Blockchain, management science and continuously emerging technologies);
- Systems Engineering - systems thinking and emphasis on holistic systems engineering instead of individual components; with a focus on stakeholders, requirements and enterprise architectures incorporating people, processes and technologies; and
- Management - strategic planning, strategic management, business strategies, entrepreneurship, planning integration, security, governance, global enterprises, and agile enterprises.
ISEM is a flexible and interdisciplinary program that emphasizes stakeholders, requirements, enterprise architecture, planning and management issues at global levels as well as the technologies and processes that comprise a successful enterprise level information system. These topics are addressed at both technical and management perspectives. An ISEM student may select an individualized concentration that supports flexible, student-driven studies in emerging technologies as well as digital health, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, information security, smart cities, software engineering, IoT, Industry 4.0 and related information system topics. A student also has the option to select a more specific concentration in Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Management Science or Blockchain and Cryptocurrency.
Program Goals
ISEM graduates are able to:
- Develop business strategies by analyzing organizational environments and processes;
- Apply advanced technical system components to support digital enterprise functionality;
- Analyze interrelationships among digital enterprise system components to support informed decision-making;
- Design system-based planning processes that integrate information, engineering, and management systems; and
- Manage core operational functions to improve performance within modern enterprise systems.
