ENVS 340 - Aquaponic System Design and Management


(3 semester hours)
Prerequisites: ENVS 120  and ENVS 240  
Description: This course builds upon the scientific principles of Horticultural Science and Practices as well as Recirculating Aquaculture Systems Management. The student will learn and apply biology, chemistry, and engineering principles to combine sustainable fish farming and hydroponic crop production into a single integrated farming system (IFS). Topics include the benefits of an IFS, simultaneously managing the specific needs of fish and plants, and managing the mass of nutrients produced through fish farming with the needs of vegetable crops. Offered Fall semester, annually.
