Information Systems Engineering and Management, D.Eng. Requirements

The following comprises the requirements for the D.Eng. in Information Systems Engineering and Management. Requirements include a minimum of 36 semester hours and non-credit program requirements. When applicable, the semester hour value of each course appears in parentheses ( ). Additional information regarding Doctorate programs can befound in the Doctorate Guidebook.

Milestone 1

Admission Criteria - Project Proposal

During the Admissions process, the student will provide a project proposal demonstrating the problem’s depth, the solution’s high impact, and the student’s skills for successful completion.

Complete the Breadth Course Requirements

In addition, with permission of the Program Lead, the student may complete any Graduate or Doctorate level course to align with research/project topic.

Students entering with a Baccalaureate Degree

Complete the following courses - 33 semester hours:

GRAD 509 - Research Methods (3 semester hours)
ISEM 500 - Strategic Planning for Digital Transformation (3 semester hours)
ISEM 503 - Artificial Intelligence Principles and Applications (3 semester hours)
ISEM 530 - Systems Engineering Principles (3 semester hours)
ISEM 540 - Enterprise Architecture and Integration (3 semester hours)
MGMT 510 - Business Strategy and Management Principles (3 semester hours)
Complete 6 semester hours from the following courses:

ISEM 502 - User-Centered Design ,

ISEM 534 - Database Design and Management ,

ISEM 551 - Web-based Software Engineering ,

ISEM 570 - Principles of ITIL for IT Quality , or

MGMT 511 - Digital and Global Enterprises

Students entering with a Masters Degree

Complete 9 to 21 semester hours from the following courses:

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Training

CITI Training includes training modules on human subjects and ethical research. Harrisburg University requires thatall research involving human subjects, including the use of secondary and primary data, be reviewed by theUniversity’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure protection of the rights of human subjects.

Milestone 2

Complete 6 semester hours of the Doctoral Research Seminar:

ISEM 785 - Doctoral Research Seminar (3 to 6 semester hours)
After consultation with the program lead and advisor, if needed, the student will enroll in ISEM 781 - Doctoral Research Seminar II as a continuation of the Research Seminar requirement.

Milestone 3

Research Proposal Defense

The student will be required to have a Doctoral Dissertation Committee established.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Approval

The student will receive approval of research from Harrisburg University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB).
