Doctorate education focuses on enabling the student to make original contributions to their respective fields of study. There are two phases of the doctoral program at HU, an initial learning phase that can include coursework, seminars, research, and fieldwork that contributes to the student’s knowledge in the program of study; and a second research phase that focuses on student’s original research culminating in their final dissertation defense or complex project. Upon completion of all program requirements the student will be awarded the doctoral degree in their program of study.
Doctoral level studies in Information Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM) offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree and a Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng.) degree. Doctoral Studies in ISEM will offer the following degree outcome choice for students:
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) - contributing new theories and concepts, or novel applications of existing theories, to a discipline or area of professional practice resulting in a terminal degree that produces researchers and academicians who will add to the body of knowledge in ISEM.
- Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng.) - devising solutions for new complex private, public, national, or global ISEM-related problems resulting in a terminal degree that produces practitioners who can lead, plan, implement, and manage the advanced technology-driven public and private organizations of today and tomorrow.
