CHEM 331 - Biochemistry I Lecture (3 semester hours) Prerequisites: CHEM 211 and CHEM 212 Corequisite: CHEM 332 Description: This course is an in-depth study of several classes of biomolecules: proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids. The course emphasizes the chemistry that dictates the structure and functions of biological molecules. Focus is given to: 1) amino acid and protein chemistry; 2) enzyme activity; and, 3) combination of the major classes of biological molecules to form biological membranes. Three hours of lecture, three hours of laboratory per week. Offered Fall semester, annually.
